Jon Christensen writing in his journal during the 2004 Sea of Cortez expedition
Jon Christensen has been a free-lance environmental journalist and science writer since 1986. His work has appeared in The New York Times, High Country News, and many other newspapers, magazines, journals, and radio and television shows. He was a Knight Professional Journalism Fellow at Stanford University in 2002-2003 and a Steinbeck Fellow in 2003-2004. During the fellowship, he organized an expedition retracing the voyage that John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts took to the Gulf of California in 1940. He kept a log of the journey at www.seaofcortez.org and is working on a book about the two expeditions and changes in ecology and the environment over the years. He is currently a research fellow at Stanford, where he is working on a Ph.D. in environmental history. For more information, see www.stanford.edu/~jonallan.
